Food Producers

The best locally-produced food the West Country has to offer

During the last eleven years, Padstow Christmas Festival has earned a reputation for showcasing a tempting selection of food ranging from artisan breads and cakes, chocolates, meats, cheeses, and preserves and pickles, not to mention award-winning craft beers, ciders, and locally-produced gins, rum, brandy, and vodka.

We will be hosting late night shopping and a range of community stalls in the market from 5pm on Friday 2nd December.

Cornish Meadow Preserves

Cornish Meadow Preserves

Cornish Meadow Preserves produces handmade, award-winning preserves, jams, jellies, mustards and marmalades at their base in Coverack, east of the Lizard peninsula.

They made their first batch to sell at a local craft market in 1987 and are still producing preserves in the same way today: small open pans, 26 jars produced per batch, all handmade and all jars hand filled. They even print our own labels and stick them on by hand!

Flapjackery

Flapjackery

Flapjackery takes the humble oat and raises it to a luxury level by adding high quality local ingredients, posh chocolate and a dash of madness (no margarine or oils) to create a range of interesting flavours in lovely large pieces. British oats, locally sourced West Country butter and Fairtrade brown sugar are some of the reasons its flapjacks taste so good.

Cornish Cheese Co. logo

Cornish Cheese Co.

Cornish Blue has been produced on the Stansfields’ farm on Bodmin Moor since 2001. At that time milk prices had collapsed and many dairy farmers were struggling to survive. In the search for a new revenue stream, Phillip and Carol Stansfield identified a gap in the market for Cornish blue cheese.

Phillip enrolled on a cheesemaking course at Cheshire College of Agriculture, turned a former bottling plant at the end of the milking parlour into a cheese production facility and Cornish Blue was on its way.

The full-flavoured sweet creamy cheese of distinctive character has been internationally recognised by a number of awards including World Cheese Awards’ champion cheese in 2010 and best blue and English cheese in 2007.

Tregida

Tregida is a multi award-winning business, based in the countryside on the outskirts of Launceston, offering smoked fish, meat and cheese from its smokehouse, as well as locally-caught fresh fish and seafood.

It’s run by husband and wife team, Jon and Coralie Short, who set up their smokery on Coralie’s parents’ land after leaving university. They built their first smoker by hand, and started producing traditionally smoked products, including salmon and mackerel, in 2000.

The couple has since invested in a Ness smoker, with a much larger capacity, and recently installed a wind turbine which generates nearly all the power needed to run the giant smokers and other electrical equipment.

They’ve now expanded into the fresh fish market: Jon buys fish from the markets at Looe and Plymouth each morning, which his team of filleters and packers prepare to customers’ specifications, ready for despatch the same evening.

Freda's Peanut Butter

Freda’s Peanut Butter

A love of peanut butter led husband and wife team, Lisa and Andrew Newsham, to search for the perfect blend. On the trip of a lifetime to New Zealand in a camper van called Freda, the couple were inspired to develop their own unbelievably tasty brand. Uniquely flavoured, deeply roasted with natural ingredients and the perfect crunch, this is peanut butter – only better.

Davidstow Cheddar

Davidstow Cheddar is made with exacting care at our multi-award winning creamery in the village of Davidstow on the north Cornish coast. Inspired by our natural surroundings and made with 100% Cornish milk, our recipe has been meticulously crafted for over 60 years to ensure every bite is never less than exquisite.

Designed to deliver a slightly crunchy texture; this is due to the formation of naturally occurring calcium lactate crystals which are found in high quality aged cheddars. These appear as tiny white spots during maturation which enhance both the character and the mouthfeel of the cheese.

Padstow Cheese

Padstow Cheese Company

A small, family-run Cornish business making a selection of award-winning cheese. The line-up includes Smoke ‘n’ Jack (Applewood-smoked for a sweet, smokey taste), Old Jack (matured for 8-12 months, offering an intense flavour and aroma) and Cornish Jack (matured for 4-6 months, allowing a unique flavour to develop).

Cornish Jack sprang into life after the founder’s Lawrence and Rosea went on a cheesemaking course at Duchy College and after 14 months of recipe development Cornish Jack was born. Lawrence began swapping cheese for beer at his local The Mariners and began to realise there was something special and unique about the cheese.

Since then, all three cheeses have won multiple awards, including Best New Cheese at the 2016 Global Cheese Awards, Best Hard Cheese at the Great British Cheese Awards in 2018 and Best UK Artisan Smoked Cheese at the 2022 Artisan Cheese Awards.

Chocolarder

Chocolarder

As Cornwall’s first bean-to-bar chocolate maker, we have more than just one aspiration. We want to focus on making incredible chocolate (of course!) but we also want to do what we can for the planet.

By being mindful about how and where we source our ingredients, having biodegradable and recyclable packaging, and thinking about the projects we support, we’re able to build ethical credentials that speak for themselves.

From our wild gorse flowers that are picked from Cornish coastal hedgerows to our sail-shipped beans that come directly from Colombia to Falmouth, we put an emphasis on quality ingredients that are sourced sustainably.

We only use organic beans imported from single estate, family-run plantations in Venezuela, Java, Madagascar, Peru and the Dominican Republic.

From the ingredients we use to the processes we’ve developed; everything we do is done thoughtfully.

Think of flavours such as a Chilli Jam made with Cornish Chillies, or Strawberry Jam with Tarquin’s Gin. Their Spiced Apple Chutney with St Ives Cider was the official chutney partner of the 2021 G7 Summit, and this year they have launched their limited edition Christmas flavours which will be available at the Christmas festival.
